Edo-Tokyo Museum

Renamed Tokyo during the Meiji era, Edo was built more than 400 years ago. Crossing a replica of the Nihombashi, the historic bridge leading into Edo, visitors to the Edo-Tokyo Museum are transported back in time through the history of this great city.

The permanent collection celebrates the politics, culture, and people of Edo-Tokyo, from the city's birth through World War II and the reconstruction, to today. The museum has a multilingual staff of volunteers and free earphone guides are available in English.

Located in Ueno-Asakusa-Ryogoku, the museum shares the area with sumo territory, including the Ryogoku Kokugikan and the Sumo Museum.
