Set in beautiful Kitanomaru Park, along with Nippon Budokan and the Science Museum, the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art is the premier collecting and exhibiting museum of contemporary Japanese art. Featuring many renowned Japanese artists from the Meiji period on, the collection includes a wide range of paintings, prints, sculptures, watercolors, drawings, photographs, and other works.
Just a quick stroll away through the park, the Crafts Gallery is housed in the former headquarters of the imperial guards. This annex of the museum is registered as an important national treasure, with Japanese and foreign craft works from the Meiji period to now. Another extension of the Museum of Modern Art, the National Film Center, is dedicated to the preservation and research of cinema, with film screenings, displays and resources. The Film Center is located in Kyobashi commercial district, an area with a history of art dating back to the Meiji period.
