Sanrio Puroland, Tokyo

Sanrio Puroland, which opened in 1990, is one of Japan's most popular theme parks. While many of the popular characters that dominate the shows and various musical attractions are exclusively Japanese, Puroland attracts many international visitors due to the high visibility and popularity of characters such as Hello Kitty. Puroland has, in addition, an extensive gift shop selling items featuring Sanrio characters. Fireworks take place every night in the summer.

The main attractions at Sanrio are the Marchen, Fairyland, and Discovery theaters, the Sanrio Character Boat Ride, the Time Machine of Dreams, and Kitty's House. A brief word about Kitty: Sanrio is for hardcore Hello Kitty fans. In addition to Kitty's house, there is Kitty-shaped food for sale, Kitty-shaped toilets in the bathrooms, and Kitty-caricature artists to do your portrait.
