This city within a city, as many locals call the Roppongi Hills (Akasaka-Roppongi), represents a new prosperity in this part of Tokyo. Consisting of both residential and office space, the attractive neighborhood was completely redesigned in 2003, and has become the home for much of the Japanese IT industry. Yahoo Japan, Livedoor, and Rakuten are all housed here, giving this area an aura of freshness, sophistication, and youth.
Roppongi Hills boasts more than 200 shops, cafes, and restaurants. Not to be missed are the Mori Art Museum and the Tokyo City View observation deck on the top floors of the 54-story Mori Tower. The museum features the work of new and established contemporary artists from around the world, while the observation deck provides breathtaking views of the city.
