Tokyo Tower, Tokyo

At 1,092 feet, the Tokyo Tower is 42 feet taller than the Eiffel Tower. This 1958 structure, the highest self-supporting steel structure in the world, has two observatories, one at 820 feet and the other at 492 feet. On a clear day, visitors are treated to panoramic views of Tokyo and Mount Fuji.

The tower shimmers with 164 floodlights, orange in winter and white in summer, which makes this edifice one of high visual drama from nearly any distance. Inside, an aquarium on the first floor holds 50,000 fish. Other floors boast a wax museum, a Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not Gallery, and a Trick Art Gallery.
