Yokohama Noh-gaku-do - Masked actor in a traditional Noh play

Changing very little in the past 600 years, the traditional Japanese performing art of Noh combines song and dance for a unique theater experience -- even from Kabuki. Founded in 1875 in Negishi, the Yokohama (Yokohama-Kamakura) Noh-gaku-do (Yokohama Noh Theater) is the oldest theater in entire Kanto region. While the plays are often quite serious, in between the dramas visitors experience a lighter side of theater called kyogen, which are short comic reliefs.

Built in the garden of a former Kaga lord's house, the beautiful theater is a work of art itself, as well as a museum of Noh artifacts that's open to the public when there's not a performance.
