Traditional Japanese Kabuki theater was defined by subtlety and restraint. However, Super Kabuki tosses aside all of these conventions to create the most exhilarating, intense drama to ever grace Japanese theater. Held every year at the Shinbashi Embujo Theater, these plays feature incredible production values, complete with high-flying stunts and explosive special effects. There are intricate props -- such as an artificial waterfall -- and even on-stage fireworks performances.
The drama itself is great, featuring some of the top Kabuki actors in all of Japan. English-speaking viewers won't have to worry about being lost while viewing because the printed programs include English translations of the plot. An English earphone guide is also available to help viewers sort out the script. The performances usually sell out weeks before the show's date, so it is advised that patrons buy their tickets well in advance.
