The Dai Ginza Matsuri began in 1968 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration. Now, every year in mid-October people kick off the festivities with a march down the 1,100 meters of Ginza Dori, a wide boulevard in the heart of Ginza. Musical performances and a photo contest follow, along with the Hachi-Cho Shrine Pilgrimage, in which visitors can see the 12 shrines located in the eight cho (districts).
Colorful attire and lively music aren't the only thing this festival has to offer. Bazaars and well-known shops line the streets, offering incredible bargains in honor of the event. This annual festival is held from October 10 through 17.
