A modern Department Store
Tokyo is well known for its large department stores that offer top-of-the-line products, unusual treasures, and a cultural immersion experience all their own. Some of the most impressive department stores can be found in the Ikebukuro district. Found on opposite sides of the Ikebukuro Station, Seibu and Tobu are in ongoing competition to be Tokyo's largest department store. Nearby, the Sunshine City shopping complex offers not only a wide range of shops and boutiques but also an aquarium and the Sunshine 60 skyscraper with observation deck. The 12-story Daimaru Department Store, located in the Tokyo station by the Imperial Palace, is well respected for its food departments, spa services, name brands, and household items.

Other department stores of interest include Isetan in the Shinjuku (Shinjuku-Shibuya) district, featuring a large food court and an extensive yukata (light summer kimono) department, and Kiddyland in the Harajuku district, featuring six floors of toys, games, and collectibles including perennial favorites Pokemon and Hello Kitty.
